Safety and Well-being Policy

Yarra Valley Water is committed to the Safety and Well-being of its employees and those of its partner organisations by providing a safe and healthy working environment.
We strive to achieve a target of zero injuries.

Our Safety and Well-being Policy aligns with, and is supported through, our Safety and Well-being Objective in the Company’s Cultural Strategy. Our process to manage safety is centred on both our Risk Management Framework and the National OH&S standard AS/NZS 4801:2001.

The Board of Directors, management, employees and our partner organisations share responsibility for Safety and Well-being.

The Board of Directors has a responsibility to review and adopt the Safety and Well-being Policy, oversee the development of the OH&S Strategy and monitor OH&S compliance, risk and audits.

Management has the overall responsibility for providing a safe workplace and is therefore accountable for the following:

  • Providing and maintaining workplaces in a safe condition;
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of and complying with all OH&S legislation/regulation and other identified requirements;
  • Actively promoting, implementing and supporting OH&S procedures;
  • Proactive detection and removal/remediation of risks;
  • Encouraging initiatives that contribute to a safer and improved working environment;
  • Monitoring OH&S performance and improvements;
  • Promoting and encouraging employees personal health;
  • Providing the resources to meet OH&S commitments;
  • Conducting appropriate OH&S induction and training.

Our employees also have a responsibility to:

  • Work in a safe manner and comply with all safe working procedures;
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of and comply with all OH&S legislation/regulations and other identified requirements;
  • Report all accidents and incidents;
  • Report all workplace hazards;
  • Participate in all OH&S induction and training that is provided.

Our partner organisations have a responsibility to foster and maintain a safe working environment through the application of their OH&S management system, which will encompass as a minimum the responsibility which Yarra Valley Water places on its own management and employees.

Our Safety and Well-being Policy is reviewed every two years or earlier if considered necessary to reflect changes in our risk environment.
