Pools and Spas
On Stage 1, pools and spas of up to 2,000 litres can be filled with drinking water. This is generally the size of an infant's play pool.
A pool or spa of more than 2,000 litres can only be filled for the first time when done so in conjunction with a Water Conservation Plan approved by Yarra Valley Water.

What about topping up my pool or spa - have the rules changed?
Yes, on Stage 1 water restrictions you are able to top up an existing pool or spa using either a handheld hose fitted with a trigger nozzle or a watering can or bucket, filled either by a hand held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, or directly from a tap.
Spend less time cleaning and to save water too
Ensuring that your pool is water efficient, and reducing cleaning time is as simple as these simple steps:
Use a cover to reduce evaporation, save on heating costs and to remove the amount of debris in your pool.
Install/ use a water tank for topping up
Install a backwash minimisation system to prevent unnecessary water loss.
The Water Neutral Pool initiative is supported by Yarra Valley Water and the other greater metropolitan water retailers. It can help you save more than 6,000 litres a year.
