Grass watering exemption

Yarra Valley Water customers can apply for a 28-day Warm Season Grass exemption.
 
This allows you to install or sow a warm season grass in your garden - and water it with mains water for the first 28 days (the vital establishment phase).

Warm season grasses such as Couch, Buffalo and Kikuyu are well suited to Melbourne’s harsh summer weather – surviving and often thriving, on sporadic summer rainfall. 

And in the long term, warm season grass uses an average of 70% less water than common ‘cool’ season grasses in a residential garden.

Choose your grass seed carefully!

Many seed packets contain mostly winter grasses which will die out in summer so make sure you read the label.
