Trunk Services

Trunk Services Image 300 PixelWhat are they?

The water supply system is made up of a network of pipes that start at the catchment reservoirs and run through Yarra Valley Water’s reticulation system up to the property water meter.

While extensive, Yarra Valley Water’s reticulation system often falls short of properties within our licence area, particularly those in outer municipalities.

  • Trunk services are generally only permitted for domestic usage on properties currently not supplied by a water main.
  • Temporary trunk services are not a permanent method of supply, although in some instances the trunk service may be in place for many years.
  • The owner of the trunk service is responsible for the cost of the water which leaves the reticulation main. Poorly maintained trunk services can lose water which must be paid for by the trunk service owner.
  • The trunk service includes; the connection point at the water main, appropriate service pipe work and a separate metered branch into each connected property. Generally there is a meter on the end of the reticulation pipe.

Please Note: Trunk Services are different to Raw Water Trunk Services. Raw Water Trunk Services are connections to aqueducts (untreated water).
