Activity 1 - Cloudia Raindrop's Morning

Read what Cloudia did this morning and answer the questions.

Bzzzzz....

Cloudia Raindrop's alarm clock is still ringing and she's late. Another school to visit with a water conservation message this morning!

Luckily Cloudia has time for a quick 3 minute shower. She is proud of her water saving shower head, it only uses 7 litres of water per minute.
How much water did Cloudia use showering? ________
Her neighbour, Mr Jones, won't buy a new one, he uses an old one which uses 20 litres per minute and his two kids never shower for less than 15 minutes each. How much water would Mr Jones' kids use each morning? _______
Cloudia thoroughly brushes her teeth (not leaving the tap running), dresses and sets off for the train. Her neighbour, Mrs S, is up early, hosing the leaves into the gutter. Cloudia stops, even though she's really late.
'Hi Mrs S' Cloudia says, 'You're up early today!'. Mrs S waves back. Cloudia keeps walking and sadly thinks 'If only she'd use a broom, every minute she uses that hose she wastes 16 litres a minute.'

How much water would Mrs S waste in 10 minutes? _______

Suddenly Mrs S calls out 'Cloudia where can I get a straw broom and some new washers? That leaking tap in the laundry is driving me crazy and I know that I am wasting about 20 litres of water every day, after all you tell me every day!'. How much water would be wasted if her tap had been dripping for 60 days? _______
Cloudia Raindrop smiles and calls back "Great Mrs S I'll grab them for you and drop them in tonight.' She just catches the train and relaxes, thinking, 'It was worth the wait, Mrs S is finally seeing the light - she'll save water, money and help the environment!'
