How to conserve water

Around the Home

Take shorter showers - an 8 min shower uses 120 litres of water

Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth and save 10 Olympic size swimming pools of water each time.

Fix dripping taps and water leaks - a tap that drips once every second wastes 30 litres of water daily.

Convert to a new 6/3 litre dual-flush toilet - this can save the average family up to 100 litres of water daily.

Install high performance, water efficient shower heads.

Use a plug in the sink when you wash fruit and vegetables.

Fully stack the dishwasher and washing machine before using them.

Water the garden early in the morning or in the late afternoon. This will reduce water loss due to evaporation.

When sprinking the lawn, fit a timer-device to the tap. It won't forget to turn off the water.

A forgotten sprinkler wastes more than 1000 L per hour.

Mulch your garden beds, this helps keep the soil moist and prevents the growth of weeds.
