Helping communities address the challenges of drought

To help minimise the impact of water shortages on customers and communities, a variety of new, innovative solutions are being developed to improve water efficiency and maintain businesses and activities that are an integral part of our day-to-day life.

For example, tennis courts can require large volumes of water to keep them in a playable condition. For example, a typical en-tout-cas court can use hundreds of thousands of litres of water each year. In the current climate of water shortages, using water wisely is important for the environment and helps your club save money, while ensuring availability of courts for play. This fact sheet provides information on the ways your club can save water both in the short term, and for the future.

Blackburn and Wellington Tennis Clubs recently participated in a trial of ‘Courtreat’ to reduce the need for watering of their en-tout-cas courts. This resulted in an immediate and dramatic reduction in the Club’s water consumption.
