Doncaster East Water Tank Upgrade Project
We have completed works at the Doncaster East water tank site to upgrade vehicle access around the tank.
Yarra Valley Water’s water tank in Doncaster East supplies drinking water to about 5,000 properties in the area. From time to time we need to access the tank site to maintain the condition of the tank.
Our contractor, Simpson Construction Company, started work to upgrade the site's vehicular access in mid-February 2017. These works were completed in late March 2017. Our contractor has since cleaned up the site and removed all of their equipment.
Some trees have been removed
For these works to occur, we had to remove some tall pine trees that were dead or in poor health. These trees were a safety risk for our staff visiting the site. Trees dropping limbs could also damage the tank.
In consultation with arborists and Manningham City Council, it was determined that 25 trees would be removed. Our contractor, Green life Group, removed the trees in mid-September 2016. With the trees removed, the access upgrade works were able to begin.
Planting new trees
Now that our site access upgrade works have been completed, new native trees and shrubs can be planted around the site. We will wait until late Winter 2017 to do our planting, to provide them with the best chance of survival.
The following removal and planting plans were approved by Council in 2016:
- Plan showing which trees we have removed
- Plan showing where we propose to plant new native trees and shrubs
