Water Supply Testing May 2021 - parts of Surrey Hills, Mont Albert, Balwyn North and Box Hill South

To make way for North East Link, two water mains under the Eastern Freeway between Estelle Street, Bulleen, and Koonung Creek Reserve, Balwyn North, will need to be moved.

To plan for a smooth transition for when properties will be reconnected to the new mains later this year, we need to run some tests on our water supply network.

During these tests, residents in these areas may notice a reduction in the flow of water to their property. Our tests will only result in changes to the water pressure for a 72-hour period. We will start making these important changes to our water supply network on 24 May 2021.

We hope to complete our testing quickly and have plans in place if unexpected  impacts are experienced. This may result in works being postponed to another date during May or June 2021.

What does the North East Link work involve?

North East Link will build two new water mains under the Eastern Freeway, using a micro tunnel boring machine to keep traffic moving and to minimise noise and disruptions above ground.

Once the new water mains are built, there will be some temporary water supply changes as builders connect the new water mains to the existing water supply network. You will be notified two weeks in advance of any disruptions to your supply.

What do the Yarra Valley Water tests involve?

We’ll change over your water supply for a short time, which means we’ll supply you with water from different pipes in our network. While we do this, you may notice a reduction in the flow of water at your property, particularly in the early morning and evening when water demand is usually high.

During testing we will carefully monitor the pressure in our water supply system to ensure we continue to provide you with a flow rate, as guaranteed under our Customer Charter.

How long the tests will take and when will they happen?

Our tests will only result in changes to the water pressure for a 72-hour period.
We expect to start the tests on 24 May 2021, with all tests to be completed by the end of May. We hope to complete all testing quickly and have contingency plans in place if unexpected impacts are experienced. This may result in works being postponed to another date during May or June 2021.
