Paying by cheque in the mail will end on 30 June 2022

From Friday 1 July 2022, we’ll no longer be able to accept cheques mailed to us for payment.

Our bank will stop processing cheques and the GPO Box 2860, Melbourne VIC 3001 address that cheques are sent to will be closed.

By Friday 1 July 2022, Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) will be made available as an additional payment option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you no longer accepting cheques in the mail?

Our bank, Westpac, is cancelling the GPO Box you send cheques to and will also stop processing cheques. This means we won’t be able to receive or process cheques after Thursday 30 June 2022.

What happens if I have to send a cheque in the mail before 1 July 2022, but Yarra Valley Water don't receive it until after 1 July?

Any cheques that we receive from 1 July 2022 cannot be processed. We will contact you to arrange alternative payment and will organise to return your cheque.

What other ways can I pay my account?

There are several other ways to pay your bill:

  • Direct debit – call us on 1300 304 688 or set it up online
  • BPAY – look for the BPAY code on your bill to set this up with your bank
  • Credit card – call us 24/7 on 1300 362 332 or pay online
  • Pay by cheque at any Australia Post office

By Friday 1 July 2022, EFT will be made available as a payment option. You’ll be able to transfer direct from your account to ours. More details will be available in the ‘How to pay’ section of your next bill. See below for more information.

Can I send cheques to you at another address?

You can still pay by cheque in person at any Australia Post. Unfortunately, as our bank is cancelling the GPO Box and won’t process these cheques anymore, there’s no other address to send cheques to.

Which of my accounts does this change relate to?

This change applies to any accounts that you have with us. From 1 July 2022, we won’t be able to process cheque payments for Yarra Valley Water bills or accounts.

Why have you sent me multiple letters/emails about the same thing?

We’re sorry you’ve received so many letters/emails but to make sure we tell people who’ve paid by cheque, we’ve contacted each account holder at their mailing or email address.

Do you have Electronic Funds Transfer available as a payment option and how does it work??

By Friday 1 July 2022, EFT will be available as a payment option.

EFT will allow you to pay your water bill by transferring money directly from your bank account to ours. A unique bank account number will be provided for each account you have with us.

The BSB and unique bank account number will be listed in the ‘How to pay’ section of your bill. Payment will need to be made through your financial institution.

I pay for multiple accounts/bills and usually send one cheque for all of them. How will the EFT work – can I do one payment for all accounts/bills?

A unique bank account will be provided for each account you have with us. This will make sure your payment is allocated to the correct account.
