Property hazards and staff safety

Looking after our team is part of getting the job done. We rely on your help to make sure staff and contractors can safely access your property.

Every day, our teams are out in the community reading meters, carrying out maintenance and responding to service requests. To do this safely and efficiently, we need your help to identify and manage potential hazards on your property.

What to watch out for

Some common property hazards that can put our staff at risk include:

  • Unrestrained pets - dogs or other animals can pose a safety risk, especially is protective or anxious around visitors.
  • Electric or barbed wire fences - these can cause injury if not clearly marked or deactivated during visits.
  • Poor lighting or trip hazards - uneven paths, slippery surfaces or low visibility can lead to accidents.
  • Locked gates or obstructed meters - if we can't safely access your water meter or work area, we may not be able to complete the job.
  • Aggressive or inappropriate behaviour - we're here to help. Everyone deserves a respectful, safe working environment.

How you can help

Here's how you can support a safe visit:

  • Secure pets - keep dogs and other animals safely contained or indoors when we're due to visit.
  • Provide clear access  -make sure we can easily get to water meters or work areas.
  • Flag any hazards - use signs or let us know in advance about anything that might be dangerous, like electric fences or construction work.
  • Maintain safe walkways - keep paths to water meter clear, dry and free of debris.
  • Notify us of any concerns - if you think there's something we should know before a visit, please get in touch.

Working together

When properties are safe and accessible, it helps us get the job done quickly and efficiently - and reduces the chance we'll need to come back.

If there's something you'd like to know before a visit, or if you have any questions, please contact us.

Thank you for doing your part to support our staff.
