Saving water
Small water savings add up. We all rely on Melbourne's water and we all have a part to play in protecting every precious drop. Now and for future generations.

Drier weather and a growing city
In Melbourne, we’re lucky to have some of the best drinking water in the world.
However, our climate is becoming warmer and drier and our water storages aren’t refilling like they used to. With less rainfall and a growing population, we’re seeing our storages drop more quickly – putting pressure on water supplies.
That’s why it’s more important than ever to make every drop count. Because together, we can ensure there’s enough water for everyone.

Melburnians use an average of 163 litres of water per day
Introducing small changes now will help us avoid bigger sacrifices down the track. It's everyday water-saving habits – from the backyard to the bathroom – that collectively help us conserve our water supplies.
Let's make every drop count and reach our target usage of 150 litres of water per person, per day.

Did you know?
Permanent Water Saving Rules are in place to help us all use water wisely.
Under Victoria’s Permanent Water Saving Rules, you can only use sprinklers and watering systems before 10am and after 6pm. You can water your garden and lawn at any time using a leak free hose with a trigger nozzle, but please don’t hose concrete paths or driveways – use a broom instead.
We all play a role in conserving our water
Together with the Victorian Government and Melbourne's other water corporations, we're taking action to secure our water supplies for now and ensure we have reliable, safe and affordable drinking water for everyone in the decades ahead.
Sustainable water sources
To protect our drinking water, we're investing in sustainable alternatives, including recycled water, desalinated water, and stormwater harvesting.
These solutions reduce pressure on our water storages and ensure there's enough water for everyone.
