Yarrambat Community Sewerage Program

Work on the piped sewerage system in Yarrambat is now complete and we're doing our final testing before you can connect.

51 properties in the area have received a connection point to the new system, giving property owners the option to let us take care of their wastewater.

All properties will be serviced using a pressure sewer system. For information about pressure sewer systems, visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

This project will benefit the community by:

  • Improving the health of local waterways.
  • Protecting public health.
  • Reducing sewer odours that are currently noticeable in the area.
  • Providing a more liveable environment for locals and visitors to the area

Please note, the dates and information on this web page are based on our current plans and may change as we progresses. We’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

What should you do right now?

You don't need to do anything right now, except keep maintaining your current onsite wastewater (septic) system. We'll be in touch with property owners directly as we progress.

Why does this area need a piped sewerage system?

Septic tanks work by gradually releasing wastewater so that it is absorbed by the soil and plants on your property. If they are old and beyond their service life, fail or aren’t maintained properly they can create unpleasant smells and boggy areas. They can leak waste onto other properties or the wastewater can flow into local drains and waterways. Sometimes properties are too small to contain the waste; or the land might be steep, so the waste runs off before it is absorbed.

Also, many properties have split systems where toilet water is treated by the septic tank and wastewater from the kitchen, shower and laundry flows into the stormwater system. This waste is not treated and flows into our creeks, rivers and bay, polluting our waterways.

What are the costs?

There is no cost to you for the construction of the sewerage system or for providing a connection point from your property. If you wish to connect, property owners will be responsible for the connection costs to the sewer. Visit our costs of connection page for more information.

Project updates

February 2026

Construction works are now complete. We’ll send you a letter when your property is ready to connect to the new sewerage system.

Getting ready to connect
Your property will be serviced by a pressure sewer system. To help you prepare, you can book a pressure sewer consultation, if you haven’t already.  During this visit, our contractor will meet with you onsite, explain how the system works, confirm equipment placement and answer any questions..
Book a consultation at yvw.com.au/bookPSSA.

Do I need to connect?
If your existing onsite wastewater system is working to EPA and council standards, connecting is optional. If it’s not meeting these standards, connecting to the sewer is recommended.

More information
You can find answers to common questions about connecting and costs at yvw.com.au/cspFAQs.

November 2025

As part of our works to bring a piped sewerage system to parts of Yarrambat, we’ll carry out night-time construction work for three weeks.

Works in the area
We’ll be carrying out night works to reduce disruption to daytime traffic and local businesses.
Our crew will use non-destructive digging to locate underground services. This involves using a vacuum truck and water jet to safely expose underground pipes and cables without damaging them.
We will then install the new pipes using horizontal directional drilling, which lets us drill and pull the pipes into place without needing to dig up large sections of the road.

Where we’ll be working
On Yan Yean Road between Jorgensen Ave and Laurie Street.
Most of the work will focus on constructing sewer pipelines along the side of the road.

Timing of work
From 8 pm to 5 am, Sunday to Thursday nights, from Sunday 30 November to Sunday 21 December 2025.

How this may affect you
•    The works will be nosy and dusty – we’ll do our best to minimise disruption.
•    We’ll use bright lights but will direct all lighting towards the work area and away from homes to minimise light spill.
•    Traffic management will be in place to help keep you moving through the area.
Your water supply and water pressure will not be affected during these works.

For queries related to the works contact
Interflow Project Coordinator, Hilary Williams, on 0455 788 391 or [email protected]

Interflows night works supervisor can be contacted on 0474 147 644.
