Yarrambat Community Sewerage Program

Work on the piped sewerage system in Yarrambat will commence in the coming weeks, led by our contractor Interflow.

59 properties in the area will receive a connection point to the new system, giving property owners the option to let us take care of their wastewater.

All properties will be serviced using a pressure sewer system. For information about pressure sewer systems, visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

This project will benefit the community by:

  • Improving the health of local waterways.
  • Protecting public health.
  • Reducing sewer odours that are currently noticeable in the area.
  • Providing a more liveable environment for locals and visitors to the area

Please note, the dates and information on this web page are based on our current plans and may change as we progresses. We’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

What should you do right now?

You don't need to do anything right now, except keep maintaining your current onsite wastewater (septic) system. We'll be in touch with property owners directly as we progress.

Why does this area need a piped sewerage system?

Septic tanks work by gradually releasing wastewater so that it is absorbed by the soil and plants on your property. If they are old and beyond their service life, fail or aren’t maintained properly they can create unpleasant smells and boggy areas. They can leak waste onto other properties or the wastewater can flow into local drains and waterways. Sometimes properties are too small to contain the waste; or the land might be steep, so the waste runs off before it is absorbed.

Also, many properties have split systems where toilet water is treated by the septic tank and wastewater from the kitchen, shower and laundry flows into the stormwater system. This waste is not treated and flows into our creeks, rivers and bay, polluting our waterways.

What are the costs?

There is no cost to you for the construction of the sewerage system or for providing a connection point from your property. If you wish to connect, property owners will be responsible for the connection costs to the sewer. Visit our costs of connection page for more information.

November 2025

We're getting ready to start construction and works will take place between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday, and between 7 am and 3 pm on some Saturdays.

What you need to know
Every property along the pipe path will receive a connection point.
•    Whether you plan to connect or not, we’ll install a sewerage connection point at your property for the future.
•    Our contractors will need access to your property to install the connection point.
•    You don’t have to connect if your onsite wastewater system is working to Environment Protection Authority and council standard.
•    There is no cost to you for the consultation, connection point, pressure sewer equipment or its installation.

In accordance with Section 175 of the Water Act 1989, plans for these sewer works are available on request. If you’d like to inspect them, please contact our Project Manager, Sonya Petrova, on 9872 1317 or email [email protected].
