Yarra Valley Water

Mount Ridley Road Sewer & Water Project

We’re constructing new sewer, water and recycled water pipes in Mickleham to service one of Australia’s fastest growing communities in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Most of this new infrastructure is large ‘mains’ pipes that transfers high volumes of wastewater, water and recycled water over large distances.

The project will be completed in two stages over approximately two years.

  • Stage 1 - the sewerage pipes are currently being constructed
  • Stage 2 – after the sewerage works are complete in early 2023, we’ll then install the water and recycled water pipes.

Most of the construction will take place in the road reserve to the north of Mount Ridley Road between Newbury Road and east of Mickleham Road.

The map below shows the path of the new sewer, recycled water and drinking water pipes.

Due to the pipes’ size, depth and how they interact with the greater network, many properties along the pipe path are unable to connect into them directly.

If you’re interested in connecting to water or sewerage services, visit yvw.com.au/psa to request ‘preliminary servicing advice’ for your property.

Impacts and what to expect

The works involve using an excavator to dig trenches up to 11 metres in depth, lowering pipes into the trench, connecting the pipes, and finally backfilling the trench with soil.

Working closely with our contractors, we’ll make every effort to complete these works with as little impact as possible on you and the community.

  • The water and sewer services to the area will not be interrupted by these works.
  • You may notice work happening along the north side of Mount Ridley Road.
  • The work will be noisy at times, and they will be operating excavating machinery and driving trucks in the area.
  • Traffic flow along Mount Ridley Road will sometimes be affected by our works. There may be occasional short delays to traffic.
  • To protect the local environment during construction, we completed extensive environmental investigations and have chosen construction methods to minimise environmental impacts, including tree and native grass removal.
