Developing infrastructure and a career
Mitchell Hill, Senior Land Development Specialist
Starting the day with a morning walk for coffee
I've been at Yarra Valley Water for three years. Before that I worked in banking and was heading the customer management team at a finance start up.
Knowing the impact my team's work has on our customers, as well as my team environment makes my work meaningful.
Hybrid working has been so beneficial for me. I get to hang out with my team every week in the office and work from home four out of five days which my fiancée also does, so we make the most of it and get up early for a morning walk to our local coffee shop on each of those days.
A role that develops
Day-to-day my role is to assess and process development applications for residential lots of different sizes, all commercial development and all developments with fire services. My role also involves Town Planning and Statement of Compliance and so much more!
Since joining YVW I've gained a significant amount of development knowledge. I’ve learned new skills in plan reading and marking up and gained a deeper understanding of water and sewer servicing and how YVW’s networks support our customers every day.
Helping projects come together
I’m proud of working closely with the Authority Works team in assisting with development application for the North East Link and Suburban Rail Loop projects.
I can see the infrastructure coming together with my own eyes and it’s cool to be a part of helping these projects come together, even if it’s in a small way.
Be the change
I’m inspired to make suggestions for improvements to my team’s processes because I know the impact that has on our workload as a team. This has a massive flow on effect to our customers.
My team has such an amazing work ethic which is supported by how transparent we all are. There is no ego in our team and we love a good sanity check.
One Team
We are one team, no one is ever left behind, we show up and always support one another. I see this every day - we take responsibility and try to assist anywhere we can with someone else’s piece of work, because we all want to make each other’s lives easier and workloads lighter.
