Critical Beveridge sewer upgrade completed, boosting capacity for northern growth corridor

Yarra Valley Water has completed the final stage of its Rankin Street Sewer Project with the upgrade of its Mandalay Sewer Pump Station in Beveridge, delivering critical infrastructure to support the area’s growth and future development.

Delivered in partnership with Jaydo, the upgraded pump station will strengthen the capacity and resilience of the local sewerage network, ensuring it can continue to meet the needs of one of Melbourne's fastest growing areas.

Throughout construction, the project team worked collaboratively to deliver tailored technical solutions. This included Jaydo developing an in-house electrical design and staging pump operations to work within existing power supply limitations.

The project also placed a strong emphasis on minimising impacts to the Beveridge community. Electric bypass pumps were used in place of traditional diesel pumps, while temporary site offices were powered by mains electricity, significantly reducing noise for nearby residents, particularly after hours.

Permanent sewer level sensors were installed to provide early warning of potential spills, while planning remained responsive to changing conditions, with planned shutdowns rescheduled three times to avoid periods of extreme fire danger.

Yarra Valley Water Deputy General Manager Asset Delivery and Care, Simon Willis, said the project demonstrates the organisation's commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports Melbourne's growth areas while delivering positive outcomes for customers and the local community.

"As Beveridge continues to grow, investing in critical sewerage infrastructure is essential to ensure we can continue providing safe, reliable services for our customers,” he said.

“Completing this upgrade means the network is ready to support current and future demand, while the innovative delivery approach helped minimise impacts on nearby residents.”

The Mandalay Sewer Pump Station upgrade forms part of Yarra Valley Water's ongoing investment in essential infrastructure to support growth across Melbourne's northern suburbs.
