Explore your backyard during National Water Week

Yarra Valley Water has teamed up with other Victorian water organisations to provide exciting online educational experiences for this year’s National Water Week (October 18-24).

Explore your Backyard is an online learning festival celebrating and nurturing our connection to Country and water during National Water Week.

Yarra Valley Water Managing Director Pat McCafferty said the festival would focus on water efficiency and exploring nature in the local area.

“Explore your Backyard has been designed to appeal to a wide range of ages, interests, topics and educational goals and can be accessed from home or school,” Mr McCafferty said.

“It’s an opportunity to have a bit of fun and learn something new about saving water while enjoying and exploring your own area – whether it be a backyard, local waterway, vegie patch or balcony garden.”

This is the second year water organisations from across Victoria have teamed up along with the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning to provide virtual learning experiences for National Water Week.

Mr McCafferty said this year’s event promised to be bigger and better and encouraged students to join in the fun.

The event will be launched by Costa the Garden Gnome, with an exclusive Facebook Live chat at 4pm on Sunday 17 October. It will then continue through to 24 October.

The festival will also feature live webinars, on-demand workshops, tours, videos and resources, all designed to get everyone outside and using water efficiently.
