Hume locals invited to drop in for help with water bills

With many Hume residents feeling the pinch due to soaring interest rates and the rising cost of living, Yarra Valley Water is heading to local shopping centres to let customers know about its WaterCare financial support program.

Locals will be able to visit a “WaterCare pop-up stall” at Broadmeadows Central Shopping Centre from Tuesday 7 - Saturday 11 February for a free consultation. Yarra Valley Water customer service representatives will be available to help with concessions, payment plans and other ways to save money.

Interpreters will also be on site to support customers who speak a language other than English at home.

Yarra Valley Water Managing Director, Pat McCafferty said Yarra Valley Water is committed to ensuring that its essential services are affordable and accessible to everyone.

“With the rising cost of living, it’s more important than ever to ensure our customers know we’re here to help if they’re struggling to pay their bills.”

"Our WaterCare financial support program is available year-round, but we know that this time of year can be particularly difficult,” he said. “That’s why we’re raising awareness of our support through customer bills, advertising and community events.”

Mr McCafferty said eligible customers could claim a concession, apply for a Utility Relief Grant, or switch to flexible payment options as part of the program, however many customers are unaware of the support options available to them.

“We hope that by getting out in the community and engaging with people face-to-face, we’ll be able to help customers find what they need and support more households,” Mr McCafferty said.

The Broadmeadows Central activation is the first in a series of pop-ups being held over summer, with additional sites scheduled in Northland Shopping Centre (Tuesday 14 – Saturday 18 February) and Pacific Epping Shopping Centre (Tuesday 21 – Saturday 25 February).

Yarra Valley Water’s WaterCare campaign is being delivered in seven languages other than English, with material also available in Auslan. The campaign received industry recognition as a finalist in the Australian Water Association awards in Victoria in November 2022.

The Yarra Valley Water WaterCare pop-up will be open at Broadmeadows Central from 10.30am – 4.30pm (Tuesday – Friday) and 9.30 – 2.30pm on Saturday.
