Brushy Creek Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade Project
We’ve completed an investigation at our Brushy Creek Sewage Treatment Plant in Croydon to identify possible odour sources and find a solution to improve the plant’s performance.
We’d heard from some Chirnside Park residents living directly north of the treatment plant that they sometimes noticed odours from the site.
In October 2020 we completed an odour assessment that identified possible odour sources.
We’ve considered several options to treat the odours and found a solution. This will involve installing a new $1.3 million 10-metre high air vent stack with an activated carbon treatment system that will filter the odours. This is a proven treatment, used at numerous other sewage treatment facilities around Australia.
We’ve applied to the Shire of Yarra Ranges for a Planning Permit to build the new facility. We’ll also be advising the Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA Victoria) about the investigation outcomes and seek approval to construct the facility.
Subject to receiving the relevant approvals, we expect to engage a contractor by February 2021. Work on the new facility will start by March 2021 and take about nine months to complete. We expect it to be operating by December 2021.
