Cameron Street East Mains
What’s involved in the works?
Our contractor, MFJ Constructions, will be delivering essential upgrades to support growth in Melbourne’s northern corridor. The project includes:
- 2.2-kilometres of new drinking water mains.
- 2.2-kilometres of new recycled water mains.
- 1.2-kilometres of new sewer mains.
This will service more than 7,000 homes in Donnybrook and Kalkallo. Improving water reliability for the 2,800 existing households in Olivine Estate, and provide recycled water, drinking water and sewerage connections for a further 4,500 homes planned for the area.
Most of this work will be completed using open-cut digging, with some tunnelling in certain areas to reduce impacts.
We’ll be tunnelling underneath the Merri Creek in a small section – avoiding any impact to the creek itself.
We’ll also be tunnelling under the railway line, and areas of cultural heritage sensitivity.
When will work start?
We expect to start construction in October 2025.
The works will take approximately 2 years to complete.
Why do we need to do this work?
- Improved reliability – As the local population grows, so does demand on our water and sewer services. These upgrades will ensure the system continues to run smoothly now and into the future.
- Supporting growth in Donnybrook and Woodstock – Extending sewer services to these areas ensures the right systems are in place to meet the needs of this growing community.
- Stronger water supply for Olivine Estate – The new mains will provide a secondary source of drinking and recycled water, helping to maintain water pressure and reduce the risk of service interruptions.
