Wollert to Mt Ridley Recycled Water Main
About this project
This new pipeline will deliver reliable recycled water supply for new homes and businesses across Melbourne’s growing northern suburbs.
Recycled water helps us save precious drinking water. It can be used for things like toilet flushing, watering gardens, and washing cars and clothes.
More than 160,000 new homes are expected to be built in the Northern Growth Area over the next 20 years. This project will make sure we can keep up with that growth.
A typical home with recycled water uses about 25% less drinking water.
When will work start?
We expect to start construction in 2027.
The works will take approximately 18 months to complete.
How we'll work
Most of the project will be delivered using open-cut trenching. To minimise impacts on traffic and your daily commute, we’ll tunnel beneath the Hume Freeway and work within the road reserve wherever possible.
