Craigieburn Road East to Bald Hill Recycled Water Mains
About this project
We’re building a new recycled water main to connect our Recycled Water Treatment Plant in Wollert to our future Bald Hill tanks in Beveridge.
This new pipeline will deliver reliable recycled water supply for new homes and businesses across Melbourne’s growing northern suburbs.
Recycled water helps us save precious drinking water. It can be used for things like toilet flushing, watering gardens, and washing cars and clothes.
More than 160,000 new homes are expected to be built in the Northern Growth Area over the next 20 years. This project will make sure we can keep up with that growth.
A typical home with recycled water uses about 25% less drinking water.
Project timing
Work will happen in 2 stages:
Stage 1 (starting mid-2026): From Craigieburn Road East to Donnybrook Road. This stage will follow the Melbourne-Albury railway corridor in our existing pipe track and will be about 6 km long.
Stage 2 (timing to be confirmed): From Donnybrook Road, along the railway corridor to Gunns Gully Road, then along Gunns Gully Road and up Cloverton Boulevard to the future Bald Hill tanks in Beveridge.
How we'll work
Most of this work will be completed using open-cut digging. In some areas we’ll use tunnelling to reduce impacts on the community and the environment.
We’ll be tunnelling under:
- Malcolm and Merri Creek to avoid disturbing the creeks and the plants and animals that rely on them.
- The railway line and the Hume Freeway to minimise disruption for road users, and local residents.
